  • Ancient Times House is operated by the Australian Institute of Archaeology and managed by Dr Piers Crocker. It is located in Little Bourke Street (between Russell and Exhibition Streets) in the central business district of Melbourne, Australia's second-largest city.

    Facilities: Wheelchair access, shop, toilets, education programs, hands-on activities, lecture hall, membership, journal, public lecture program, travelling exhibition for schools, churches, library.
    Description: Ancient Times house is Victoria's largest collection of Egyptian, near-eastern, and biblically related artefacts, and was founded in 1954. Some 25% of its exhibits are replicas, including Tutankhamun material. It takes up two floors with approximately 1,350 objects on display.

  • Museum of Victoria
    The Museum of Victoria began in 1854 as a small public collection of minerals and natural science specimens. Today, some 16 million objects are housed at three major locations.

    Admission charges: Adults $5.30. Child/Concession $2.60.
    Mediterranean Antiquities Collection: the collection includes Greek, Roman and European objects, but is mainly composed of Egyptian antiquities, including three adult mummies - one of them, Tjeby, in his coffin - and a fine anthropoid wooden coffin.
    Note: The Museum at Carlton Gardens, scheduled to open in December 1999, is to replace the Swanston Walk campus, which will close.
